The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest battle in World War II. It lasted from the very beginning of the war, in 1939, to when Germany lost the war and it ended in 1945. The Battle of the Atlantic consisted of many sunken ships and many deaths in the Atlantic. At first Britain and France (the Allies) were fighting Germany alone but as the war went on they were joined by The United States and Italy.
